Threat at Jenny Lind Elementary Update 2.4.26

The recent phone threat to Jenny Lind Elementary School was a shocking and saddening event for the children and school community. We appreciate the cooperation of law enforcement for their quick response and continued efforts to keep our community a safe place to live.

Here is an update as to what information and actions I can share with you:

- We continue to work closely with law enforcement and specifically with Lt. Jason Waite of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, our SRO Scott McNurlin has been extremely helpful during this time.

- The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has allowed us to have their portable camera system parked in the parking lot at JLE.

- The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has done its best to make sure that there continues to be a law enforcement presence at the school.

- District Legal Counsel under the direction of district administration has filed for and submitted to Superior Court for a Restraining Order against the individual allegedly responsible for the threat against the school. This restraining order was filed on Wednesday, February 4th and, once granted, will be in effect until a court date is provided for a permanent order.

- The District will consider other arrangements and improvements to site safety and security.

Please contact the District Office if you need more information or have questions.

Threat at Jenny Lind Elementary Update 1.30.26

The recent phone threat directed toward Jenny Lind Elementary School was a deeply upsetting and unsettling event for our students, staff, and families. We understand how concerning this situation has been, and we are grateful for the swift response and continued partnership of local law enforcement in ensuring the safety of our school community.

While there are limits to the information that can be shared due to an ongoing criminal investigation, we would like to provide an update on the steps that have been taken. On Thursday, Judge Healy issued an Emergency Protective Order (EPO) related to the school. Although this order is temporary, the District will have the opportunity to petition the court to continue similar protections through a civil restraining order with the same terms.

We will continue to closely monitor the legal process and remain committed to ensuring that this incident is addressed fully and appropriately through the judicial system.

Student and staff safety remains a top priority. In December 2024, the District completed a comprehensive facilities audit conducted and updated by an experienced outside contractor. That review resulted in several recommendations, many of which are already being implemented or are scheduled to move forward in the near future.

While incidents like this are understandably alarming, we want to reassure families that the District will continue to take proactive and thoughtful steps to keep our schools as safe and secure as possible. Thank you for your continued trust, patience, and partnership as we move forward together.
